Tips for Going Viral

Bonjour readers, today we’ll be taking a look at tips for going viral on social media.

It is very easy to make a viral video, but longevity and consistency, that’s hard.Michelle Phan

With each and every post on social media, each of us is looking to go viral. Either for maximum exposure (on the business end) or just looking to get famous. These days, it is getting more and more difficult to retain the attention of your audience. According to Microsoft, the attention span of internet users is about 8 seconds. So, in order to capture and retain this gem, the post has to have value, a wonderful design and should trigger the emotions of the target audience. Even though none of us can predict whether a post will go viral, there are certain measures that can improve their outreach.

1. Draw from current trends and events

This is a tip that needs no introduction or explanation. It takes the right timing and the right kind of content to kickstart a post. When it comes to content production, current always sells. Both Twitter and Facebook provide a trending section that keeps users up-to-date on trends and events the world over. The best content creators are those that are able to utilize said tools.

2. Forever remain unique

This is probably the most important of all the tips. Uniqueness when it comes to social media content is very vital. Nobody wants to see the same thing over and over again, rehashed content is always frowned upon. Even though it is difficult to come up with something completely new in today’s world, producing unseen content for your audience goes a long way to keep them coming back for more. Unique content draws the audience and adds value to the content, be it facts, opinions or data. Investing time and money into ensuring content uniqueness pays dividends, after all, people’s value is the social currency.

3. You can never go wrong with a bit of humor

Humor is always welcome when it comes to content on the internet. People love to laugh and when you, as a content creator, taps into this feeling, it elevates your posts. People tend to share funny content online more than anything. Playing with the emotions of your audience is an intricate art, the trick is to find the right balance and not overdo something.

4. Controversy never hurt anybody?

Controversy

Some of the most popular posts on the internet are those that delved into controversial topics. Dare to shock the audience, this tends to make their blood boil and encourages them to share. After all, there is no such thing as bad publicity. Whenever articulating your thoughts and opinions online strive to always be authentic in your opinions, you can never please everyone, but always make sure you avoid being offensive.

5. Never shy away from visual media

As technology continues to improve, an opposite effect is experienced on humans’ attention spans. They tend to want information presented to them in the easiest format, with less text content but more multimedia. This is where visual media comes in. Introducing images, gifs, memes, and videos to your content makes it more memorable and shareable than a monologue.

Going viral is not for the faint-hearted. For the content creators, they have to be up-to-date in order to come up with current content, and this is not easy. We at Mark & Ryse strive for such excellence. So, every time you are about to post something online, ask yourself this question, “Would I share this?”.

Au revoir, until next time……..
